LYING IN STATE
What a great run!  The cast and crew had so much fun and that  carried across to the audiences.  We really entertained a large group  of people. One frequent comment was “How timely!”  Virginia is to be  commended for this.  It was her vision to push to get this show into  this September slot so that we could be “timely.”  We succeeded.        Dave George from the Moose Head Restaurant was shocked  yesterday (Tuesday) to see a hearse at Workshop and a casket being  removed from the building... He wondered who had died...  Pat Price  set him straight.  She told him “We knocked ‘em dead with the last   show!”  Way to go Pat!!   ;-)     LOL

In truth the casket loaned to us by Walter Frey Funeral Home  was simply being returned to its rightful owner.

One final  THANK YOU!!!!! To cast and crew for all your dedication to  our show.

****CHRISTMAS BELLES****
We had a great turnout for auditions.
Dave MacKeigan and I would like to thank everyone who auditioned.  I  love it when the director has so many options that his/her job  becomes difficult!   That is the position that Dave is in and we will  have to wait until next week to announce his cast.  He needs a couple  of days to work things through.

The tech crew for BELLES is shaping up.  If you would like to work on  one of these crews, contact the crew head.

LUNCH  BUNCH  AT   YOUR DELI - AMHERST  THIS WEEK
Last week we had TEN! - A great group in Elyria for lunch at  Carlisle Cafe. Bev and Art Sperry, Carl and Charlotte Norris, Dawn  Watson, Pam Pickworth, Jack Warren, Greg Friedman, Wade Hubbard and  myself.  It was good as always to just get together, swap theater  stories and gab...  The Sperry’s report that they are all moved into  their new home and everything is unpacked!  I told them they are  overachievers!  The Carlisle Cafe has a free book shelf where Dawn  picked up a great copy of Oscar Brockett’s “History of the Theater.”   I also hear that Pam Pickworth got a new desk for her office out of  this lunch time meeting.
This week we are back at our usual haunt, YOUR DELI in  Amherst.  We gather between 11:30 and 11:45.  But come when you can.   We usually hang out gabbing till after 1:00 p.m.  If you can join us,  please do!

THE CURSE OF THAT SCOTTISH PLAY

Several times in the past I have written about the curse of that  Scottish play.  Legend has it that if you or someone in a show names  the title “Macbeth” during rehearsal/production of a show the show  will somehow be cursed.  Some say that quoting lines from Macbeth can  curse another show. I have been in shows that seemed plagued by  someone naming that title.  Very often in history people associated  with productions of the show have been injured. Apparently the  current production at Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland is no  exception.

Here is a brief excerpt from Dr. Roy Berko’s recent review of  “Macbeth” now on stage at GLTF in Cleveland. There are many superstitions centered on the belief that the play is  somehow "cursed",and many actors will not mention the name of the play aloud,  referring to it instead as“The Scottish Play.”   Great Lakes was not immune from the curse.

Associate Artistic
Director Andrew May, who was to portray Macbeth, was injured prior  to production and had to be replaced.
Beware!  ;-)

Hi Dave, Just a word to let you know that Tia made it into the  finals of Youngstown Superstar and there will be a promotional video on their website  tomorrow. Finals are Oct 17th at Youngstown Playhouse. I know it's a trek but I'm trying  to muster up some support for her as audience vote counts. Also, she got a part as an  indian in Peter Pan at Beck center which will be their Christmas show this year. It's  sure to be a holiday treat. Good luck with the rest of Lying in State run and sorry you  had to cancel Musical of Musicals. Take care, Irene K.
CONGRATS, TIA!!!!!!

TRIVIA
1. 'Living with somebody you love can be lonelier than living  entirely alone when the one you love doesn't love you.'

answer:  Maggie in 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'.
This fabulous play by Tennessee Williams was bowdlerized in the 1958  movie because of all the references to Brick's homosexuality. The  film is still very enjoyable though, and those who watch the film  before watching/reading the play will notice a big difference.

2. 'They might have left me my toothbrush!'

answer: Garcin in 'Huis Clos'
All the people in the options die, but Garcin is already dead at the  start of the play. This complaint is made when he enters Hell. At the  end of the play he concludes: 'Hell is other people'. For those  confused, the play is known by five different titles: 'Huis Clos',  'In Camera', 'No Exit', 'No Way Out' and 'Dead End'.

3. 'Goodbye, cruel world!'

answer:  Ophelia in 'Hamlet'.
She drowns herself because Hamlet goes mad. Shakespeare is the  author, as you probably know.

4. 'How does one drowning man help another drowning man?'

answer: Brick in 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'
Poor Brick. His friend, who he loved, died of alcoholism and then  Brick becomes an alcoholic too. Tennessee Williams wrote this  fabulous play.

5. 'The Devil is precise; the marks of his presence are definite as  stone.'

answer: Reverend Hale in 'The Crucible'
"The Crucible" is a play by Arthur Miller, set in Salem in the 1600s.  The play is about witchcraft and there is a famous part where Abigail  and her friends claim seeing a long list of the town's women at their  ritual: 'I saw Goody Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with  Devil! I saw Goody Bishop with the Devil!...'
